Documentary Series: The Listener

The Listener chronicles the life and legacy of psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor Dr. Dori Laub, a pioneer of trauma testimony and co-founder of the first video archive dedicated to recording Holocaust survivor accounts beginning in the late 1970s. Laub’s journey encompasses his childhood survival in concentration camps, his complex relationship with Johanna – the daughter of a former Nazi officer – and his lifelong mission to give survivors a voice.

A talkback following the film will include a panel discussion with HMCEC President & CEO Erin Blankenship, and local survivor interviewers Monica Goodwin and Marina Berkovich.

About our speakers:

Erin Blankenship is the President & CEO at the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center and has worked in Holocaust memory and testimony for more than 24 years. Over that time, she managed the testimony project for The Florida Holocaust Museum, interviewing survivors, training volunteer interviewers and managing the use of testimony. She also led and managed that Museum’s Dimensions in Testimony project, conducted in partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation, to record four Florida survivors for their interactive survivor biography program.

Marina Berkovich is a native of Kiev, USSR, bt escaped from religious and political oppression to the US in 1979. She is the child of Holocaust survivors and has been a member of the Museum’s oral testimony project team since 2008 and has volunteersed
