Yom Hashoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day

There will be FREE ADMISSION to the Holocaust Museum today.

Yom Hashoah is a day set aside for Jews to remember the Holocaust. The name comes from the Hebrew word ‘shoah’, which means ‘whirlwind’. Yom Hashoah was established in Israel in 1959.  The date changes according to the Hebrew calendar each year and coincides with the anniversary of the start of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.

This is a different commemoration than the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, on January 27th each year, instituted by the United Nations.
